Mayuko Katakura

Born in 1980, from Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture.Her mother is jazz pianist Kazuko Katakura.She learned classical piano from a young age, and when she entered Senzoku Gakuen Junior College, she switched to jazz piano.She studied piano under Masaaki Imaizumi.After graduating from the same university, she entered Berklee College of Music in 2002 with a scholarship.She has performed with Christian Scott and Dave Santoro. She graduated in 2004, where she received a piano achievement award. She entered the Juilliard School in 2005.She studied piano with Kenny Barron, ensemble with Karl Allen and Ben Wolff.She performed with Hank Jones, Donald Harrison and many other virtuosos while she was in school, and she won the Mary Lou Williams Jazz Competition in 2006. will perform with his own trio.She has also been named a semi-finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition held in September 2006.She is currently active as a member of her own trio, the Mabumi Yamaguchi Quartet, the Masahiko Osaka Group, the Kimiko Ito Group, the Nao Takeuchi Quartet, and the MOST. In 2009, she released her first lead work, Inspiration.She is a part-time lecturer at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music.
