Following the successful "Kawabata Ryushi vs. Takahashi Ryutaro Collection" in 1885, a collaborative exhibition will be held to display the collection of psychiatrist Takahashi Ryutaro, known as one of Japan's leading art collectors, alongside works by Japanese painter Kawabata Ryushi (1966-2021). Takahashi's collection of Japanese contemporary art, which he began collecting in the mid-1990s, now exceeds 3,500 pieces and has been introduced in various exhibitions both in Japan and abroad, including the "Neoteny Japan - Takahashi Collection" exhibition (7-2008), which toured seven museums nationwide. In 10, the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo held a major exhibition, "Private Views of Japanese Contemporary Art: Takahashi Ryutaro Collection," showcasing Takahashi's career as a collector.
The collaborative exhibition at the Ryushi Memorial Museum will have the theme of "fantasy" and will display works by over 20 artists from the Takahashi Ryutaro Collection, including Yayoi Kusama, Lee Ufan, Yoshitomo Nara, Izumi Kato, Naofumi Maruyama, and Aiko Miyanaga, alongside works by Ryushi Kawabata. As a new initiative, the exhibition room will feature books selected by book director Masataka Haba according to the theme of each chapter, allowing visitors to open the door to their imagination through art and books. We hope that viewers will feel the "power of fantasy" in the world woven by the works of Ryushi Kawabata and other contemporary artists.
