Nakamura Tetsu asks, "What is work, what is work, and what is peace?" Screening and after-talk of "Doctor Nakamura Tetsu's Work and Working"

Dr. Nakamura Tetsu began providing medical assistance in 1984, and expanded his activities to include the construction of irrigation channels to combat droughts and the reconstruction of rural areas. This journey has lasted for 35 years. Dr. Nakamura first learned the local language, and through dialogue with the local people, built up their trust. "We don't have a firm philosophy of aid, but the one line we will not compromise on is 'putting ourselves in the local people's shoes, respecting their culture and values, and working for them.'" When building irrigation channels, he drew up the blueprints himself, drove heavy machinery, and worked with them, covered in mud. He had joined the Taliban because of his poverty, and he participated in this work. "It is futile to ask yourself why you are living. People work for others, support each other, and die for others. Although we are at the mercy of the joys, sorrows, and happiness that arise from this, in the end it is nothing more and nothing less." The barren land has been revived, crops have ripened, and the livelihoods of 65 people are being supported. The sight of parents and children harvesting and eating together as a family is dazzling. Dr. Nakamura says, "This is the work of humans."
