OTA Art Project Magome Writers Village Theater Festival 2025 ~Experience the world of stories~

Magome Writers Village was once home to many writers. This year, the Bunka no Mori Cultural Forest will host a variety of events, including plays, talk events, a book fair, and a memorial museum lecture, all with the theme of Magome Writers Village.
The hall will present the works of Hirosuke Hamada, a children's story writer who lived in Ota Ward at the same time and had connections with writers. Before the performance, a demonstration class will be held to help you enjoy the play even more. Adults and children can enjoy it together.

We will be holding a variety of events, including a book fair and talk event, food trucks, memorial museum lectures, and guided tours!

Theatrical company Yamanote Jijosha

Formed in 1984 based on the Waseda University Theater Study Group.Since then, he has consistently pursued “things that only theater can do” and developed experimental plays. In 1993 and 1994, they participated in the Shimomaruko [Theater] Festa, and developed as a performing arts group representing contemporary theater. Since 1997, he has been working on a performance style called "Yojohan" that expresses modern people with restricted movements, and in recent years there have been many performances overseas. In 2013, the dedicated rehearsal hall and office moved to Ota Ward.We also actively cooperate with local communities.Representative works include "Tempest", "Titus Andronicus", "Oedipus King", "Dojoji", and "Keijo Hankonka".

Hiroshi Shimizu (Stand-up comedian and actor)

He was a member of the Yamanote Jijosha theater company in the 80s and 90s, where he was a central actor. He will be hosting stand-up comedy festivals in Shinjuku and Shimokitazawa in 2022, 2023, and 2025. He has performed comedy in local languages ​​not only in Japan but also at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, North American Fringe Festival, China, Russia, and other countries, bringing high energy and laughter to people all over the world.

"The Red Ogre Who Cried"《Synopsis》

The kind-hearted red ogre wanted to become friends with humans. His best friend, the blue ogre, came and suggested that he become a villain and cause trouble so that the red ogre would be recognized as a good ogre. Thanks to this, the red ogre became good friends with the villagers, and one day, he visited the blue ogre's house.

"Tears of the Dragon's Eye"《Synopsis》

There was a child who wasn't the least bit afraid of the dragon that everyone else feared. The child went out to find the dragon, hoping to invite it to his birthday party. The dragon, who had never been spoken to kindly by a human, was moved by the child's kind words and made a decision.

"Monkey and Crab"《Synopsis》

The crab asked the monkey to pick the fruit from the persimmon tree he had grown. However, the monkey hogged all the delicious persimmons for himself, injured the crab, and left. The baby crab became angry and plotted revenge with the chestnuts and the bees.

Hirosuke HamadaHamada Hirosuke
Born in Yamagata Prefecture. After graduating from the English Department of Waseda University, he joined Kodomosha. In 1920 (Taisho 9), he left Kodomosha. In 1921 (Taisho 10), his first collection of children's stories, "The Starling's Dream," was published by Shinseisha. In 1923 (Taisho 12), he published "The Black Woodcutter and the White Woodcutter" and "Tears in the Dragon's Eye." He edited "Younen no Tomo" (Young Friend) at Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha, but left the company after the Great Kanto Earthquake. From then on, he resolved to devote himself to writing. In 1933 (Showa 8), he wrote "The Crying Red Ogre." In 1955 (Showa 30), he was nominated to be the first chairman of the Japan Children's Writers Association. Ten years later, he became its president.
