Profile

Junko Yagami

Born in Nagoya City. At the age of 16, he participated in the 8th Popular Song Contest (Popcon), where his first composition, "Soliloquy on a Rainy Day," won the Outstanding Composition Award. He made his professional debut in 1978 with "Memories are Too Beautiful," and released a string of hits, including "Blue Rain," "Polar Star," and "Purple Town ~You Ought Know by Now~." He moved to the United States in 1986 and took a break from music for a while, but resumed full-scale activities in 2011, releasing the original albums "Here I am ~Head to Toe~" in 2013 and "There you are" in 2016. In September 2021, he released the album "TERRA ~here we will stay," stating that "my musical career to date has been dedicated to creating these songs." In August 2022, she became the first Japanese to be inducted into the Women's Songwriters Hall of Fame, an American music organization that recognizes women songwriters active around the world. She embarked on a concert tour titled "To Your Town," inspired by her desire to "reach every corner of the country." She delivers her songs in a variety of formats, from band-style performances to collaborations with orchestras and chamber music, club tours with bassist Tsugutoshi Goto, live house tours with guitarist Korenaga's band "Learn to Fly," and piano and guitar performances with "Try Angle." In June 2024, she performed two days at New York's prestigious Birdland Jazz Club with pianist Takana Miyamoto. In June 2025, she embarked on a nationwide tour at Zepp with "Learn to Fly," led by Rebecca's guitarist Korenaga, to sold-out shows across the country. Still in the original key from when it was first released, she continues to captivate audiences with her overwhelming vocal power and high notes that have great range.
