Ryushi Memorial Museum
The Masterpiece Exhibition "Gorgeous and Robust: Decorative Elements in the Works of Kawabata Ryushi" and the Exhibition of Hiramatsu Reiji's Works from the Collection of the Yugawara Museum of Art will be held. |
When Japanese painter Kawabata Ryushi (1885-1966) founded his own art group, Seiryusha, in 1929, he proclaimed the motto "The Art of Strength and Virtuousness." Under this slogan, Ryushi continued to direct young artists at Seiryusha for over 30 years. His artworks, emblematic of "strength and vigorousness," center on large-scale works such as "Ittengoji" (1927), which stands over 3.5 meters tall. He also produced gorgeous, decorative works, such as "Kusa no Mi" (Grass Seeds) (1931) and "Ryushi-gaki" (Ryushi Fence) (1961), which utilize gold and other vibrant colors, a style that has been cultivated in Japanese art. This exhibition explores his artistic perspective, focusing on the themes of "splendor" and "strength" found in Ryushi's work.
In addition, a Hiramatsu Reiji exhibition featuring works from the collection of the Yugawara Museum of Art will be held at the same time as this exhibition. Hiramatsu Reiji (1941- ) is a Japanese painter who was selected for the Seiryusha School of Painting at the age of 19 and studied under Ryuko. In recent years, he has been active both domestically and internationally, exhibiting at the public Giverny Impressionist Museum in France and providing works to decorate the interior of the cruise ship Asuka III. Please enjoy his decorative and dazzling works, including Cherry Blossoms Falling in Japan (2003).
