Recruitment information
The Memorial Museum Lectures are cultural outreach courses taught by curators from the Ryuko, Kumagai Tsuneko, Sanno Sodo, and Ozaki Shiro Memorial Museums in Ota Ward, and each year they present the latest research reports from each museum.
2026 marks the 40th anniversary of the death of calligrapher Kumagai Tsuneko (1893-1986), and this lecture will explore her connection with the prestigious Ema family of Kyoto, where she was born. This lecture will look back on Tsuneko's upbringing, spent alongside her brother, Ema Tsutomu, who founded the Japan Society for the History of Manners and Customs in 1960, became its first president, and was active as a historian of manners and customs.
