[End of recruitment]Educational outreach program: "Monsters that are all around us"
We will be holding an artist workshop for elementary and junior high school students.
With Satoru Aoyama as the instructor, participants will work together to create a patchwork piece (a fabric artwork to be displayed on a wall). As a familiar social issue, they will create "monsters around us" using colorful felt and sew them onto a large piece of fabric. (The patchwork created in the workshop is scheduled to be exhibited around February-March 2027.)
Satoru AoyamaUsing old industrial sewing machines, Ms. Aoyama has produced numerous embroidery works that question contemporary social conditions, such as the changing nature of humanity and the value of labor from the modern to the contemporary era. Born in 1973, she graduated from the Textile Department of Goldsmiths, University of London in 1998. In 2001, she completed her postgraduate studies in Fiber & Material Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2025, she received the Agency for Cultural Affairs Award for New Artists. Recent exhibitions include "Satoru Aoyama: Embroidery Boy Forever" (Meguro Museum of Art, Tokyo, 2024), "30th Anniversary Exhibition: Everyday Choreography" (Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, 2025), "Satoru Aoyama: Embroidery Boy Forever in Kyoto" (Museum "Eki" KYOTO, 2026), and many others.
