Ota Kumin Plaza Visiting Exhibition Tsuneko Kumagai Kana's Beauty Exhibition "The Taste of Calligraphy: The World of Basho Matsuo and Buson Yosa"

* The Kumagai Tsuneko Memorial Hall will be temporarily closed for the time being from October 3, 10 (Friday) due to investigation and renovation work due to the deterioration of the facility.

The Tsuneko Kumagai Memorial Museum will hold a visiting exhibition at the Ota Citizens Plaza due to the temporary closure of the facility due to renovation work.About 20 works, mainly framed works, will be exhibited so that more residents can appreciate them.Since the exhibition will be held in a new area, the exhibition will consist of works written on the subject of her famous poetry, in order to familiarize people with Tsuneko's works.

Tsuneko Kumagai (1893-1986) was a female kana calligrapher who was active in the Showa period. After the war, calligraphy exhibitions began to be actively held, and new calligraphic expressions were born.Among them, the modern poetic writing style, which is mainly based on modern literature, has become a part of the current calligraphy exhibition.Even under such circumstances, Tsuneko, who pursued the dignity and grace of her classics, continued to create her splendid works. As for the classics, she says, "She's learned old writings for quite some time before she can do anything classic."

This exhibition presents Tsuneko's calligraphy, which focuses on modern literature that reevaluates Matsuo Basho (1644-1694) and Yosa Buson (1716-1784). Buson is highly regarded, including "One Hundred Years" (circa 1975), which Basho wrote after returning from his trip to "Oku no Hosomichi", and "The Mountains Are Kurete" (1961) by Buson, who admired Basho. Shiki Masaoka (1867-1902), a scholar of modern literature, wrote Yoru wo Komete (1981). We will introduce Tsuneko's calligraphy, such as "Wind" (1879), which expresses tastefully.
